GIRL GOT EDGE

I WISH that was my jacket.
I mean just look at it...the studs, the color, the buttons, the cuffs! I might be drooling some.
If you stare at it long enough (and there is no shame if you do), you might notice her shirt. It's a tux tee!

I found this on piperlime, and I think they hate me. I can't find it. Would they really do that to us?? False advertising. we should sue.

P.S. if you ever found yourself in a sketchy situation (aka you are being attacked), this jacket doubles as a weapon. Just shove against the wall with shoulder. you, 1...creeper, 0.

JUST AROUND THE CORNER

so I died for awhile apparently. my life has been a huge case of crazy for the past few months, and I do not say this lightly, actually that is kind of the understatement of the century to be completely honest. so much has happened...including but not limited to: too many french quizzes (one a day), a light fixture design, 2 studio projects, tests all over the place, online shopping, long drives, RGIII winning the Heisman (SIC 'EM BEARS!!), a lack of sleep, studying, finals, and plenty of stress to go around. Email me if you were wanting to purchase some. Today is my last official day of studying, and tomorrow at 9:00am I will take my French final and then pack up and peace out of this joint.

So one really priceless thing that just happened, I was pulling into my apartment complex and you would have thought we were going to have a white christmas here in waco...nope. Someone filled this chick's car completely full of shredded paper...IT IS EVERYWHERE. There is a trail connecting her car to the dumpster. hilarious!! Glad it wasn't me though.

Good luck on finals and finishing up the last minute "need to happen" things you got to do. I will be back for more fun and postings after I survive tomorrow.

study break over.

COMPLEXITY IN ITS SIMPLEST FORM

Yin and yang reveals a very mathematical system (granted it is a simple mathematical system because otherwise I wouldn't be able to enlighten you). Anyone who is familiar with computer code knows that all programs are written with binary code using using only 0 and 1. So no matter how complicated the program may get, it can still be broken down into groups of 1's and 0's. This is a very good example of how all complicated things than be turned into simplicity. And speaking on universe terms, the earth is made up of matter and energy. Two simple things which make up the whole universe. Crazy, huh?
All things have two opposite sides and neither can survive without the other. Just as music has both consonance and dissonance and the treble beats must be balanced out by the bass ones, but there is no point in which no new music can be created. Yin and yang are the two sides of a coin and they rely on each other to be true and keep each other balanced (even though, technically, the heads side is heavier).

So this is when Feng Shui enters the picture...it is a means to balance out the yin and yang energies in the environment.
Feng Shui is a solution based on the fundamental properties of elements that release negativity from your house and life.
There are lots of steps and tips that go along with feng shui such as psychological effects of color and the direction your bed faces...lots of silly things that are just as equally legit.

P.S. If I ever design my friend Emily's apartment/house (she is half asian) then I am totally feng shui-ing her place.

P.S.S. Is that table not awesome??

I'M BACK

I am officially back from falling off the facing of the earth. It has literally been too long since I have blogged.

Guess what? ...lots of things. This week was crazy busy. I had three tests, one quiz, two projects, one meeting, one checkpoint, lots of cherry limeades, a new concoction at Starbucks (you should try it: tall peppermint white mocha w/ 2 pumps white mocha, one pump peppermint), not very many veggies, a few extra pounds (oops), a couple good grades, and potentially a really bad one, an orange warning sticker on my driver side window of my car (yay for another blind spot), a new iPhone 4 and Kate Spade case, and I really REALLY need to work out.
Oh yeah, and it kind of feels like it wants to be fall. Diggin' that!!

What are some of the best things about fall you ask?
- crunchy leaves
- pumpkin spice latte's
- layering
- boots (I need to start saving up)
- cozy socks
- ANDDDD....

LAMP PIMPING <---does that sound weird?

I have been keeping a folder on my computer called design files and it is basically where I keep all the cool website finds that aren't your cookie cutter go to places for furniture and things. This is a lamp that I am loving pretty hard right now. I mean, can't you just see it chillin in your home?

So mod pieces redoes some pretty legit vintage lamps. They pimp lamps out. I am also loving this multi-colored one too.

FUN STUDIO

Check out this studio!! I feel like I would be in my office making progress if it was radder! Mine is just this white table shoved in the corner of my bedroom with all my printer and computer cords and this junky black chair. But hey, it's practical for college. No, but this one, where you can see more pictures here, is the bomb.com.

So aside from the rug and wire based chairs, the black vinyl is totally legit and paired with the white lacquer...what?! Love.

I can't help but point out this color combo...it totally matches my header to a T! How cool is that?
Way to go J. Crew...you are awesome, but you already knew that.

YOU HAVE MY VOTE

I have decided that I miss dining rooms...or breakfast areas. Not so much the table and chairs (I mean I miss those too), but what comes with them. A home cooked meal and some good old family time. I know this is silly, but I have been fighting a cold this week, and I don't know about you, but the best thing for a cold is your mom. And some soup. I haven't had chicken noodle soup or bean soup in awhile.  I miss the chair and table thing too though. All I have here is a couch and bar stools. We have a dining (breakfast) table, but that has been converted into a desk for the time being. It is a little hard to get to though because you have to climb behind the air hockey table (that one of my roommates has now made crafting and drop off central?) and then a really fat leather chair. Welcome to college.

Aren't these dining rooms just to die for? I don't remember where I found the top left one, but all of them except for the bottom right one are from Lonny. The one at the bottom right is by Kelly Wearstler and you can check out her thoughts right here

This one is from the late Domino mag. Easily one of my favorites. I have loved it for years. The rich colors and materials totally play up the glam vibe and I am absolutely digging it. What do you look for in a dining room?

GOOD TIMES

Please tell me I am not the only one. I think it is the rolling hills that really do it for me. Are those more like mountains than rolling hills? Not sure...there are no rolling hills/mountains where I come from.

LOVING IT SO HARD

These are some interiors of fashion's Jarleth Mellet's beach house. All of the wallpapers are photographs of Mellet. How cool is that? I wish I knew somewhere I could scale up a photograph and attach it to someones wall. Greatest personal touch ever.

So. I am getting total body goosebumps looking at this house. I want. I am putting it on my Christmas wishlist. Wouldn't it be nice if it was that easy?

For some reason this is giving me an Adirondack vibe. Not sure why. May be the antler seat, but who knows. All I know is I would die if someone (Mellet) stopped at my door and was like "hey, want a beach house?" AHHHH! YES. <----- that's me. (some jumping action may be included)

These are screen shots from Lonny Magazine. Their next issue is live on September 10. Be there because I sure will be.

FOR EMILY

So this post is for my bestie Emily. She hates them...ALOT. Now, I have never been especially worried about the zombies so much as the spiders that supposedly are no more  than a 6 foot radius of you at all times. Bugs...not just spiders, but honestly who cares!
They are coming for you emily....soooo RUN!!

I got this picture off of Design Love Fest and I think you can buy this off of etsy.

DRESS UP

How awesome are these? It makes me really want to play dress up and purchase a birdcage...not to accessorize with, but to wear as a hat! PS. Look at that top knot...you could put her hair in a DQ cone and no one would ever know the difference.

CHILDHOOD GAMES ARE CHIC TOO

Just another design resource. Payton Turner wallpaper! She uses her childhood love of stickers to create wallpaper. How awesome? I discovered her in the latest issue of Elle Decor. The next (or rather the first) child's room or play room, I am totally using this.

WALL ART

I think I just found my new favorite design resource. Contemporary bad ass wallpaper!! Who wouldn't want this chilling on their wall/walls? I really want to use that letterpress one soon.

Check out some more wallpaper here!

IT'S NOT YOUR FAULT

Model: Amanda Seyfried

I used to have terrible feelings for this chair. The best way to explain those feelings would be with one word. Feilner. If you don't understand, that's ok because I will share with you. So I had this scary professor during my freshman year and I was enrolled in a class called "fundamentals." Well something like the first couple weeks of class she had us sketch either the bentwood rocker or the Chrysler building. Needless to say, I sketched this chair. Now let me make one thing very clear to all of you. One of my deciding factors on interior design versus fashion was that I can NOT draw. So this was a very frustrating class period for me. I have thus held this experience against this chair for a very long time and never gave it a chance...until now.

This is the Bentwood Rocking Chair by Michael Thonet and his sons. They developed the technique of bending solid beechwood with water vapor in 1856. This is Rocking Chair No. 1 and he became most famous after his creation of the Cafe House Chair No. 14.

DREAMING OF PARIS

photos: Mariam Sitchinava

So I couldn't resist posting this when I saw it on design love fest. It makes me want to be spending the summer in Paris and loving it.

Ok, so I read design love fest (DLF) religiously...and that is saying a lot considering she posts multiple times a day. I think I am on it more than I am my email. You know, to be completely honest, if I was going to be stuck on a deserted island and I could only take a select number of things, I can guarantee that DLF would be on my list. Go check it out and see if you can't get addicted.

ND PHOTOGRAPHY

How beautiful are these photos by Nicole Slater?I have a collection of old cameras in my bedroom that I have gotten from an antique store near my house. I also got an old wingback chair from there. I love it so much! My mom says I can’t take it until I move out for real though because it matches the guest bedroom decor too well.
I love black and white film photography, but I also love my colors. I especially love how she kept the integrity of the colors but softened the backdrop. I loving finding new artists!

MAY I PAINT YOUR LADY?

I come bearing a history lesson…if you hate history then you can think of it more as a fun fact lesson.
The Victorian era is the most evident style that plagues San Francisco. The Victorian era occurred during the reign of Queen Victoria of England (1837-1901), and lasted beyond her death until the beginning of World War I in 1914. Queen Victoria identified herself with the middle class, so the furniture was made for the increasing middle class. Due to industrialization, the people were able to decorate with mass produced goods for the first time. These pieces mimicked costly materials without the same expense. The proportions are clumsy and have fantastic ornamentation. Dark woods and strong colors held the integrity of the furniture. The people wore more elegant clothing with lace and frills and they put an emphasis on fashion and proper demeanor which showed heavily in the architecture of this time.
Victorian homes were a symbol of taste and status. Four styles made up what was called “Victorian.” 1) Italianate  2) Second Empire  3) Stick-Eastlake  4)Queen Anne.
Following the Civil War, the homes left their simplicity behind and became more elaborate and flamboyant. The early homes were painted in white, beige or gray and in only one solid color. By 1887, other vibrant colors were being used to highlight the wooden decorations. Between 1870-1906 thousands of Victorian homes were built in San Francisco known as the “Painted Ladies.”
The three characteristics of  a “Painted Lady” are: 1) painted in three or more colors that embellish  2) made of redwood  3) mass produced.
On Steiner Street, across from Alamo Square park are the most well known of the Victorian houses is “Postcard Row.” Built between 1892 and 1896 by Matthew Kavanaugh, they have appeared in an estimated 70 movies, TV programs, and ads, including in the opening credits of the series Full House.

MR. ED

I am not aging myself…I am aging my mom. She always had us watching things like Bewitched, I Love Lucy, Dick Van Dyke, Mr. Ed, etc. Has anyone else ever seen this show? The coolest talking horse on the block is what’s up. I used to think that the world was black & white, not just the TV screen.  Oops.

WATERCOLOR

LOOK AT WHAT I FOUND! Have you heard of etsy? Basically it’s like ebay but wayy better. You can only sell/buy vintage and handmade things. Check out some more of Amber Alexander’s watercolor prints. These were some of my favorites that I saw and I may just have to invest in some for my oh so lovely empty space on my apartment walls!

CAN YOU HELP ME?

This has literally been driving me insane for months now (consciously…maybe a lot longer subconsciously, but who knows). See the paneling on the door…ya, what’s it called? It is all over the Texas capital and lots of other places too. But the tours at the capital don’t tell you anything about their paneling.
HELP ME! Comment and drop me little hints or just be nice and tell me straight up because that would be wayy more convenient to be completely honest.
It kind of looks like a Tie Fighter to me. Am I the only one?

STYLE YOURSELF

This is a moodboard I created for a contest through Sea of Shoes. I love her blog and her avante garde style. If you are cool you will go check it out! This is basically the things that are inspiring me right now. Also, things I would totally buy if I had the means. What’s your style?

I LOVE THIS DRESS

I am 100% in love with this picture. Correction, I am in love with this dress. There is this elegance in the granny-ness of the tweed. If someone handed me this, I might just keel over and die…which would be unfortunate because I would have to sport it to my own funeral and that really is not too exciting. Chanel is bloody brilliant. So is Elle Fanning. I found this lovely picture at Interview Magazine.
